BWCA Wilderness Base Camp Fishing Package
The Boundary Waters BWCA fishing trip package is designed for the serious fisherperson that wishes to set up camp one time and spend the remainder of the time fishing for the numerous species of fish the famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area has to offer: walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, lake trout, and panfish.
The idea of a base camp fishing trip retreat is just that -- to get away from the beaten track, "Paddle the Quiet Side®", and tackle some great North Country fishing! You may choose to paddle right into the BWCA via the South Kawishiwi River from River Point's base, or a River Point van will transport you directly to another entry point. Either way, in a matter of just a few hours you will be wetting your line with anticipation for that first mouth-watering meal of fresh fish!
Once your camp is established daily excursions from it to other areas of the lake or to different lakes may be an option. The Wilderness Base Camp Fishing package works well for the serious fisherperson as well as others who wish to "stay in one spot" while enjoying other outdoor activities, such as wildlife viewing, photography, or just plain relaxing!
But a base camp fishing trip is about more than just the comforts of home. Since the portages will be kept to a minimum, River Point's Wilderness Base Camp Fishing Package includes items that are usually too bulky or heavy to pack for the normal outdoor activity of a touring BWCA canoe trip adventure.
This package includes all the items contained in the Ultralight Complete Outfitting Package, plus you may select any or all of the luxury items from the list below to create your own custom BWCA

"Thanks again for a tremendous experience. Here are the photos of the two big smallmouths. Mine was 5lbs 2 oz, caught in the rapids between Gabbro and Bald Eagle, Tommy's was 4lbs 6oz caught on the rocks just south of Trappers Point. Both were weighed on our portable digital scale and released."

Canoe Trip Pro-Guide, Kevin, Cooking An Evening Meal

River Point's guides provide personalized service to all skill and interest levels, tailoring a guided fishing trip to meet your needs. A wilderness guide experienced in canoeing, camping, and fishing, while not essential, can greatly enhance a canoe trip. Fishing guides know about the history of the area, the wildlife, the species of fish, and the fishing spots, and they know how to best take care of you.
The Boundary Waters fishing guide takes care of many details of your adventure, from filleting the fish, to cooking delicious meals, to teaching you paddling techniques. Our River Point fishing guides are specialists in what they do: part outfitter, part historian, part naturalist, and resident navigator, plus they have a genuine love for canoe camping and the great outdoors.
The guided fishing trip fee is based on the party size, and is added to one of River Point's completely outfitted packages.
Fishing guides start at: $175 per day for 1-2 persons, plus $25 per day per additional person. The guide's outfitting charge for his/her equipment and food is $35 per day.
You will learn the "ways of the wilderness" and have a great time doing it.
Complimentary Fishing Seminars are held at River Point by professional and very experienced fishing guides. These informative, entertaining seminars will make your fishing outing more productive. Excellent instruction on fish species, habitat, water temperature, structure, best lure presentations and colors, and a host of other valuable information is offered.
Ely named one of ten 'Dream Towns':
"You may feel out of place in Ely if you don't have a 16-foot, scratched-to-hell Old Town canoe strapped to your roof rack. Unless you're a fisherman, that is. Ely (pop. 3,724) is located 35 miles from the Ontario border at the gateway to the legendary Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, a million-acre maze of lakes and boreal forest with 1,500 miles of canoe trails and endless runs of small-mouth bass, walleye and pike."

Quetico Fishing Trips...A Canada Adventure!
The rare chance to visit this unique and beautiful area in Canada is available to modern day fishing enthusiasts! The same package that can be used on a BWCAW trip can be used on your Canada adventure for a Quetico Park canoe trip (the Wilderness Base Camp Fishing Package).
Like the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota, Canada's Quetico Provincial Park also offers walleye, northern pike, lake trout, and scrappy small mouth bass, making the Quetico-Superior area a fisherperson's paradise.
There is absolutely nothing that compares to a fishing trip shore lunch cooked over an open fire to the person that loves the taste of fresh fish. However, many people enjoy the excitement of catching fish, taking a photo or two, and then also the pleasure of releasing their catch back into the water. The choice is yours!
Most Canada adventure fishing trips are unguided, but many people feel more confident when they hire a guide, especially if this is a first-time canoeing trip into the wilderness. River Point Outfitting Company's guides can be hired for a wilderness adventure trip of just about any length, but most canoe trips into the Quetico are 5-7 days in length.
Boundary Waters Fishing Tips: What You Should Know If You Will Be Fishing...
Remember to pack only the tackle you truly will use, and keep it light and in a small container that can be easily transported during your fishing trip. When you arrive, as much current information that is available about what the fishing action has been like will be offered, so that you can be successful in your Boundary Waters fishing trip.
A full line of tried and true Boundary
Waters fishing lures is carried in River Point's Bait & Tackle Shop, plus live bait: leeches and nightcrawlers. Spin casting, regular casting rods, and fly rods are great. Consider 10-20 pound test line for casting and 6-12 pound test line for spinning. There should be a balance of weight between the rod, reel, and the line you choose.
During your orientation and routing session with the outfitting staff at River Point's Ely, Minnesota outfitting facility, the good fishing spots will be hi-lighted for you on the waterproof maps along the route chosen for your fishing trip. Evaluation of your tackle, rod, and reel will be made, and suggestions offered.
Remember: what you pack, you will have to carry.
