Driving Time From Minnesota Airports

Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport: 4.5 hours
Duluth International Airport: 2 hours
Hibbing International Airport: 1.5 hours
Delta provides services to Mpls./St.Paul, Duluth, and Hibbing. United Airlines provides service to Mpls./St. Paul and between Chicago and Duluth International Airport.
River Point Resort provides free shuttle service to and from the Ely Airport, 4 miles away, for canoeing guests

Arrival Information
For groups requesting lodging at River Point the night before embarking on their canoe trip, please try to plan your arrival between 10am and 5pm, if at all possible. Your personalized Trip Routing and Orientation will be scheduled for you upon arrival, if you have reserved one. Staff will have sufficient time to review the equipment and/or food for your group's adventure and to properly plan and map out the route with you for your canoe trip...and, answer all of your questions.
If you cannot arrive at River Point between these times, the Trip Routing and Orientation session will generally occur at 7:30am on the morning that the canoe trip begins. The session usually takes about an hour dependent, upon your questions. Refer to your Reservation Confirmation for more information.
For later evening arrivals (later than 5-6 pm),directions to the lodging accommodation you have reserved will be sent with your Reservation Confirmation. You will register on the morning of the canoe trip in the Office, followed by the Trip Routing and Orientation session. (River Point Office is not open 24 hours a day.)
Driving Directions
Driving directions to River Point from Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth:
Follow US Highway 53 north to the city of Virginia, Minnesota, then follow the directions to arrive at River Point's facility from Virginia.
Driving directions to River Point from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area:
Follow 35W north to Hwy 33 through Cloquet. Hwy 33 turns into 53. Follow Hwy 53 to the outskirts of Virginia.
From Virginia, continue on 53 to the point where 169 joins it. Follow 169 to Ely. Travel east through Ely on Hwys 169 and 1. Turn right at the location of the Pamida Discount Store/Chamber of Commerce onto Hwy 1. Continue for 8.5 miles. Cross over a large bridge (Birch Dam), and take the next right turn onto River Point Road. Travel in 1.3 miles farther on our dirt road and you have arrived!
Please park in the large parking lot on the right hand side of the road and walk down to the office to check-in and register. Thank you!
