Airport Information

Ground van transport to and from the Duluth and Hibbing airports in Minnesota is available to resort guests and to completely outfitted Boundary Waters canoeing guests of River Point. Service is offered daily, except on Saturday.

Quotes are one-way:

• $125 for up to 4 persons

• $150 for up to 6 persons

• $225 for up to 12 persons

River Point Resort also provides a free shuttle to and from the Ely Airport for our guests.

Arrival Information

For groups requesting lodging at River Point the night before embarking on their canoe trip, please try to plan your arrival between 10am and 5pm, if at all possible. We will then be able to schedule your personalized Trip Routing and Orientation, if you have reserved one. Staff will have sufficient time to review the equipment and/or food for your group's adventure and to properly plan and map out the route with you for your canoe trip.

If you cannot arrive at River Point between these times, the Trip Routing and Orientation session will generally occur at 7:30am on the morning of the start of the canoe trip. The session usually takes from an hour to an hour-and-a-half, dependent upon your questions. Refer to your Reservation Confirmation for more information.

For late arrivals (after 8pm) directions to the lodging accommodation you have reserved will be sent with your Reservation Confirmation. You will register on the morning of the canoe trip in the Office, followed by the Trip Routing and Orientation session.

Driving Directions

Driving directions to River Point from Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth:
Follow US Highway 53 north to the city of Virginia, Minnesota, then follow the directions to arrive at River Point's facility from Virginia.

Driving directions to River Point from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area:
Follow 35W north to Hwy 33 through Cloquet. Hwy 33 turns into 53. Follow Hwy 53 to the outskirts of Virginia.

From Virginia, continue on 53 to the point where 169 joins it. Follow 169 to Ely. Travel east through Ely on Hwys 169 and 1. Turn right at the Chamber of Commerce on Hwy 1 and continue for 8.5 miles. Cross over a large bridge (Birch Dam) and take the next right turn onto River Point Road. Travel in 1.3 miles farther on our dirt road and you have arrived!

Please park in the large parking lot on the right hand side of the road and walk down to the office to check-in and register. Thank you!
